I’m Mike Sewell. I was born in Canada in 1973. I mainly grew up there but lived in Florida for a while as a kid. Later I also lived in England for two years, and in Japan for nine.
At the moment I live in Peterborough, Ontario with my amazingly talented wife, Emi.
Web Developer
I graduated from York University in 2001 with a BA in Cultural Anthropology, soon after I moved to Japan where I worked teaching English and also played guitar in a few bands.
While living in Japan, the band I was in needed a website. I decided to give it a try and after getting a few pointers from a friend began teaching myself HTML & CSS. I found that the simple logic of these languages was strangely easy to pick up after learning Japanese, which requires the brain to be turned inside-out and shaken vigorously.
I now work full-time building websites exclusively using WordPress. Check out my first free WordPress theme, Sutra. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in working together.
Guitarist
Seeing Jimmy Page play guitar on TV when I was 15 awakened within me the need and I began to teach myself guitar from books and magazines.
Years later, while playing onstage in a dingy club in Soho, London he actually appeared, unmistakable in face and aura. I nearly dropped my guitar but he just glanced up at the stage then passed through to the pub. A strange but meaningful experience.
If you’re interested in what happened after that pay a visit to the music page.
Meditator
When I was 17, I read The Dharma Bums which piqued my interest in meditation and I began meditating regularly. Soon after a friend introduced me to the Tarot which in turn led to the great western mystery teachings, eastern mysticism, etc.
Later on I discovered Rudolf Steiner and through him other writers connected to Theosophy, this is the subject matter I spend the most time studying these days.
